Hello St. Edith Parishioners! Music enhances and adds so much to the liturgy. The Adult Choir, Music Ensemble, For God’s Glory, Children’s Choir, The Bells of St. Edith, Resurrection Choir, Cantors, and Instrumentalists assist in the sung prayer of the liturgy. We gather to celebrate the Eucharist in song, share the Body and Blood of Christ, and sing praises to God. Please see the music calendar under "More Info" for a listing of which group will be playing at each liturgy. Prayerfully consider joining one of our music groups. Remember, singing is praying twice!
God Bless, Heather Shina- Director of Music Ministries
Adult Choir
Members of the Adult Choir are from high school to retirement age! Our choir is made up of individuals from every walk of life with the main interest of “Praising God in Song”. New members are always welcome. The choir season runs from September-May. The adult choir warms up and rehearses before each Mass assigned. The choir rehearses on Thursday evenings in the Music room from 7-9pm October-December to prepare for Christmas and February-April to prepare from Easter. The Adult Choir sings at the 11am Mass on Sundays. Our choir season will begin the Sunday after Labor Day through the middle of May. The choir is directed by Heather Shina.
Music Ensemble
Music Ensemble is a group of young adults who enjoy praising and worshipping God with their special talents. It is comprised of vocalists, guitarists, and instrumentalists of all ages led by Rita Douglas. The Music Ensemble leads worship at the 5pm Sunday Mass and at the 11am Mass once a month. Vocalists and instrumentalists starting from junior high and up are welcome to participate. The Music Ensemble incorporates a blend of traditional hymns with praise and worship music. Rehearsals are held twice monthly on Wednesday evenings from 7-9pm in the Music Room prior to Sunday worship. Some members of the Music Ensemble lead the music for our RE and Lifeteen evening Masses which are the first Monday of the month during the school year. During the summer, the Music Ensemble leads the music for our vacation bible school at St. Edith.
For God’s Glory
This is open to any musical young adult from college through 40 year olds. Instrumentalists and vocalists are both welcome. Come share your talents and enjoy participating in liturgy. This group sings at the 5pm Saturday Mass three times a month with Heather. Rehearsals are an hour before Mass.
Children’s Choir
Members of the Children’s Choir are in grades 1 through 8. The children sing four times during the church year. Rehearsals are on Tuesdays at 6pm in the Music room. The Children’s choir is directed by Mona Mason. The Children’s choir will begin the season the Tuesday before the month of October and end the Tuesday of Holy Week.
The Bells of St. Edith
Membership in this choir is open to people of all ages including children and adults. Being able to read music is not a requirement. You just have to know your colors and how to count to 12. Becoming part of the Handbell choir will help to open the door of musical expression to those who never thought they would have the opportunity to make music. Commitment is a key ingredient where each ringer plays a number of bells, which no one else in the choir plays. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 5:45-7pm in the AV Room. The Handbell choir rehearses on Wednesdays from October through December to prepare for Christmas and February through the middle of May to prepare for Easter and First Communion. The Handbell choir is directed by Heather Shina.
Resurrection Choir
Members of the Resurrection Choir are those who are able to share their voices to support the singing for the bereaved of our parish community at parish funerals. Anyone who has mornings available for this beautiful ministry are encouraged to be part of this great team of parishioners. Rehearsals are held on the day of the funeral 30 minutes prior to the liturgy in the Music room.
Cantors
The Cantors role is to encourage the congregation to sing the hymns and Mass parts and to lead the sung prayer of the Responsorial Psalm from the lectern. Cantors at St. Edith must belong to one of our music ministries in order to be involved.
Instrumentalists
St. Edith welcomes anyone who has played a musical instrument for over two years to play along with one of our music groups. We welcome pianist to play prelude music for 10 minutes prior to the beginning of Mass.
