A Call to Service - Knighthood will fit you well brothers!
In "Days of Old"
The Knight's “Code of Chivalry” was a moral system that stated all
Knights should protect others who cannot protect themselves, such as widows,
children, and elders. All Knights needed to have the strength and skills to fight
wars in the Middle Ages. Knights not only had to be strong, but extremely disciplined.
They were expected to use their power to protect the
weak and defenseless. Knights vowed to be loyal and generous. Knights
were required to always tell the truth and always respect the honor
of women. Knights not only vowed to protect the weak but also
vowed to guard the honor of all fellow knights."
Today's Knights are not as "rugged" as our ancestors, but our moral system remains the same. Our willingness to "protect" others has turned more towards "caring" for others. We are still men who love God and the Church. We still strive to be the best examples of Men, Husbands and Fathers, and we also express our love for Community as well as Country.
Our Mission of Service encompasses these 4 Principles: Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. In 2005, here at St. Edith Parish, there was a call to men who would be willing to accept the challenge of "Knighthood." According to our "Charter," 68 men answered the call.
As in the days of old, when Knights would go on "Quests" and do "Good Deeds" they would be away from the “Roundtable” if you will for sometimes years at a time. Eventually they would return to tell their tales of good deeds.
I have personally been a Knight since 1975, and I am proud of that. I am also blessed to have the title of “Sir Knight” as a 4th Degree member of the Knights. Personally, I have spent time away from the Roundtable also, sometimes doing good deeds, sometimes just dealing with the twists and turns of everyday life, but that’s okay, it happens. I have been blessed to find my way back to the Roundtable and have had the opportunity to share my stories of victories and losses while away. Most importantly, however, I find myself re-focused and re-energized. I have cleaned and polished my armor and once again continued the mission of service I pledged so many years ago. I have also been blessed to assume the position of Grand Knight for St. Edith Council.
At this time, I would ask all of you Knights that stepped forward in 2005, if still on ‘Quests,” to return to the Roundtable. We look forward to hearing of your great stories of victories and good deeds. We need you; Our Mother Church needs you! All those we serve need you!
I also ask all men who are at least 18 years of age to step forward for Knighthood. The good works of "Caring and Service" are strong within our ranks. With the return of our St. Edith Knights still on “Quests” and those of you who will be new, the success of our "Mission of Service" like with our "Knights of Old" will continue for years to come!
Please feel free to contact me at (734) 732-5933 if you have any questions or are interested in joining our ranks! Join “like minded” men and help continue to write stories of good deeds!
Vivat Jesus!
John Michniak,
Grand Knight
