CONGRATULATIONS TO BILL KELLEY ON HIS RETIREMENT!

This is really the end of an era at St. Edith. Bill has been here for the past 35 years. Fr. Jim Scheick had just become pastor when Bill started. He was here when the school expanded to include 7th and 8th grades. He was here when we built our current church. He was here when the “Blue Building” was built and when it was demolished to make way for a new Parish Office Building. He was also here when the gym was built. A great deal of expansion has happened during Bill’s years of service here.

Bill has taken very good care of our buildings during his 35 years here. He has taken care of them as though they were his own. Bill is very handy. He has done a lot of the electrical work himself. He planted most of the trees that are now mature. Bill’s handiwork is all over the buildings and grounds. He knows the facilities like the back of his hand.

I have appreciated Bill’s knowledge of the facilities since I arrived at St. Edith. Since he was here during most of the building projects, he knows what actually happened during the building projects. I have come to learn that everything does not exist exactly the way the blue prints indicate. Sometimes during construction, things are uncovered and the blue prints are not followed exactly. The blue prints are usually not altered. Once things are covered up under ground or inside the walls or ceilings, it is hard to identify how things vary from the blueprints. As we have done maintenance projects on the buildings, Bill’s knowledge of the plant has been invaluable.
