Getting Involved
Volunteering can be a very rewarding experience, both for you and those you serve. There are many opportunities to get involved with the Community through the Parish. Check out our various church groups to find one that fits your talents and your passions. You'll be glad you did!
To volunteer you will need:
- Protecting God's Children Certificate (Recertification every 3 years)
- Background Check done annually (Complete form and return to Linda Kramer in Religious Education)
Archdiocese of Detroit (AOD) - Protect - Prevent - Heal
Protecting God's Children
The Office of Child and Youth Protection has been working to implement the Safe Environment Compliance changes and new requirements that were announced in February. These changes and new requirements intend to enhance our efforts to protect children and young people and update our programs and processes.
New Registrants for Protecting God's Children
Visit protect.aod.org and select "Register for Protecting God's Children - First Time Registrants." This will take you to virtus.org and you will create an account. Confirm all of your information before finalizing. Once your account has been created, you will be directed to the correct class you are required to take.
If you do not have access to a laptop with a webcam, please contact the Religious Education department. We will assist you with getting you registered and the ability to take the class, if it is by Zoom.
Recertification of Protecting God’s Children
The Virtus system emailed all registered Virtus account holders in the AOD who need to update their certification, as well as those who need to complete the Mandated Reporter module. Updated certification must be completed using the online self-paced module(s) by November 1, 2023 (NEW Date), to comply with the AOD’s Safe Environment policies. Recertification is required every three years.
Login into your Virtus account and you will be directed to the correct class you are required to take.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Linda Kramer at (734) 464-2020 or lkramer@stedith.org.
